Well what a good week its been! Last week for me was a tough week of rehab. I was rehabbing an injury that i got from blocking a shot with prrrreeeeetty much no time left on the clock. Brutal, so from now on I’m just going to pull the old flamingo and let the goalies with the big pads on do all the stopping! haha So last week was a tough on of just trying to get some grease back on the hinge there! The knee locked up for a while after that shot so bending and stretching and lifting was a tough rehab, but was a good rough!! But to help me hang in there for my first missed games of my pro career my parents flew in for a short trip, hoping to see me play but instead got a whole lotta Zak time! hahah I was thankful for them though for someone to hang with during the games and shoot the bull, so it was a relief!

Than this week the olympics started, and i’ve literally become obsessed! I cant stop watching the dang stuff. I have never been a plan your day around a sitcom or a TV series like I know alot of people do, but Olympics wise, I’ve now become that, i find myself going to the gym in between broadcast and even eating dinner before prime time! ha ha I just cant help it, there’s just something inspiring about watching people so passionate about there sports, I just cant get enough of it! And i mean sometimes you even catch a babe flying around in there and thats just an added bonus! haha

So thank you Olympics for making this week fly by and get me closer to returning to the ice! My rehab is finished and I’ve been skating all week trying to come back in better shape and a better player than before i got injured. Thats one thing that I’ve always tried to do is when you get injured or enter a set back look for things that you can do during them that will end in a positive! So these weeks i’ve been able to work on my hands alot more than i was before and also my shot, so my goal of coming back better is I hope going to be a reality because of the hard work to get back!

So I hope to see you all at the hive, cheering us on in our last 16 or so games in our final push to the playoffs!!! after all we have alot of good divisional games left, so you gotta think, “there’s no better thing to control than your own destiny eh!”

here’s a clip for sir sting…. i mean everyone is cutting edge and if he wants mascott of the year, he might need to do some of this! haha heads up ice girls!!!

So I feel like I start every blog the same, by saying its been too long ha. It has been to long though, but better late than never right. Well the month of january has been a struggle for thee old bee’s. I don’t know if it is just one of those mid season funks some teams can fall into or if were actually trying and thinking too much and than it back fires on us. still not quite sure! BUT i think i have good news…..

We have just gotten back from tulsa, literally hours ago actually and i think we are hopefully on the way back up and out of this funk! Why you may ask???? well after our worst loss of the season in Bossier we came back and coach sent as pretty good message to us with a no puck practice. Thats a nice way of saying, he beat thee old crapola outta us! but i think we deserved it. We than studied film and learned alot of mistakes we’ve been making in the past few games and i think we all took alot out of that day. So i think that was the start of good progress….

Than I think this is why were on our way out of our slump…. Our owner who makes a couple trips a year with us, decided to come and join us in tulsa which is pretty sweet! so as we were en route at about 6 am while everyone was sound asleep and bus driver benny was flooring it, Troy (our owner) was sleeping on the bunk in the front of the bus above coach Brooks…. when all the sudden BOOM, the joint on his bunk snaps sending him sliding down and into the cooler and fridge, hahah sorry troy but it was kinda funny now that your not hurt ya know! But as his bunk collapsed somehow missed smashing coach! Whew haha i cant help but laugh a bit now knowing that everyone is fine and dandy! but i figured we hit rock bottom right there, and we had no where but up too go! We than played tulsa to what i think was our best team played game in a long time! everyone was hustling just as hard on defense as they were on offense. It was good to see, and even though we ended up losing 2-1 in a shootout I still think we are on our way back up!!

So now back in the valley preparing to take on thee old Odessa Jackolopes on wednesday and than off to Bossier on friday starting a busy weekend, and hopefully one filled with alot of good wins!! But i’ll leave you all with a little something to keep you excited for the next month!! haha

Well its a nice feeling to be able to sit down and throw a christmas blog out while sitting at my house in michigan. With our schedule this year it allowed the guys who wanted to go home for the holiday the opportunity. It has been awesome, even though i’ve only been home for a day and a half, i cant begin to explain how refreshing it feels. The good old feeling of stepping off the plane into cold weather was refreshing to me at least ha. Although i do like the golf all year round and the sun, winter season just feels right to me cloudy and snowy! Also for anyone who has ever been to the little town of frankenmuth you’d think it was the little town of bethlahem with how christmasy it gets. My town of frankenmuth has the worlds….mmm hmm i said WORLDS largest christmas store, its actually the size of three football fields rammed with christmas inside and out all year round! Needless to say its pretty intense, but than again also fun to look at. So when i was able to come home and drive into town with it snowing outside I felt a little bit like maybe i boarded the polar express in McAllen and not continental ha.

As far as hockey goes, this christmas break is great too. We were able to have a good finish into the break by winning two out of three games.Than followed by jamming christmas music in the locker room as we walked out feeling good and excited to go home for the holidays. I dont think you can ask for much better and I think everyone was feeling the same way, excited to see if they made the good boy list in a few days! haha So I hope everyone is having as good as a christmas holiday as I’m in michigan, and no matter where your travels or family take you i hope its all the best!!

here is a little something from frankenmuth, and don’t forget that world class candy ships anywhere in the world….. great for parties and especially new years!!

Well i know its been to long, darnet all i apologize. We have finally had a week here with what we can call a break. After the month of November it was welcomed with open arms that’s for sure!! I believe we had 18 game in 36 days or something like that through November and into December, so a long week and only one game Friday feels really good!

For example we were able to have our booster Christmas party at south padre island!. It was a great time for everybody, the players were able to cut loose and relax and i think so were the boosters . Although our bus broke down in the morning and caused us to be a few hours late the boosters were still very gracious and showed us an amazing time, with great food and fun times!! now after getting the Christmas spirit spread hard throughout the team we were able to head to a weak of pounding it out of us on the ice! haha We’ve been in a little hiccup our last few games so it was back to the basics for us this week, and alot of grinding it out! But its sometimes what ya need to do when you sometimes start a skid…. just go back to basics and just simple and hard work till ya get back on track again.

So as were getting close to puck drop here against corpus, i have a good feeling about how our team is going to be this weekend. I though we had a great week of practice and the guys really seem to have alot of jump this morning at pre game skate… so i think the minute of madness tonight in the hive will be a good one! haha might wanna pack the ear muffs for that one! but now its off to relax before the game tonight for me but i don’t want to leave you empty handed, so i left you a lil show into Wylie’s career outside the pipes!! so he took you outta the pipes and into his kitchen!!!!

enjoy it!!!

Well as the title suggest this has been a busy month so far and only promises to get busier. Our trip that went through last weekend was sure a long one, starting with our bus breaking down on wednesday next to the hospital on business 83 just about 5 miles from our rink. ha That always seems to make for a long trip, thats for sure. But after getting to laredo things really seemed to get smoother. Actually we were able to use laredo’s bus for the rest of the weekend! To be completely honest with all of you…. that bus is sweet!!! We all had personal bunks with dvd players in all of them, that was pretty darn nice! So the rock’n roll road show this past week started tough but turned out ok.

The games this weekend were all hard fought games… the two against Laredo seemed to almost be the same game, both 3-2 shootout loses, but if you look at it getting 2 points in Laredo considering we’ve only gotten about 12 in 8 years in the arena… so that really isn’t to bad. Odessa was another tough game in the old bomb shelter. ha the ice had been out for a horse show or something so needless to say it was pretty soft and watery. No excuses though they played us tough and they have a good powerplay, but boy it’ll be nice to get them in the hive this weekend.!! Texas was a great game, especially to go in and win in that place. Probably me personally, my least favorite place to play in…. just a tin can!! and about that big too! ha

But with a tough weekend a couple of us had to get home and blow off some steam….. so we called up John Mozingo and he took us out for a day HUNT!! haha it was awesome Aaron Lee the marksman Wylie the hillbilly Rogers and me had a blast! we made a little video for you all to see how we are without the sticks and with some ammunition!!! Enjoy!

Well, as you can see from the title its true… i have a man room. Its a nice little slice of heaven in this crazy world. If i wanna make beef jerky, i can do it in the man room, if i want to enjoy a nice edition of Bassin’ magazine (fishing magazine) or a sports illustrated without hearing a hairdryer….BoOM!! MAN ROOM. I think although its a man room its still got taste, we got calenders, posters, jerseys and even a piggy bank ya know times are tough, gotta save ha. Thats just to paint a picture for you so you know what state i’m writing in.

This week started pretty eventful, we had a golf outing on monday. You figure golf outing in south texas in October, should be great eh…. mmmm tough sleddin. It was about 50 with torential rains hard enough to make some fairways look like a slip and slide into the ponds. and 15 mile an hour winds!! but we battled it with the support of all the groups, needless to say I’m impressed with the toughness of our fans and supporters!! Though tough conditions it was really a great event and the support was amazing.

This weekend starts our first three of three this season. For those who don’t know what that means, its three games in three nights. These weekends are tough and really end up being games of will . But being early in the season and guys fresh i think it’ll make for good games. This weeks practices looked good and sharp so i’m sure it’ll be a good opportunity for us to keep going in the right direction. Its also a fun weekend to see what costumes pop up at the rink So in honor of holloween being this weekend i will put up my top three costumes i’ve seen in person. So try to beat them and come to the dodge and show me what you GOT!!!

Forcast for the weekend…… “A little swirling high pressure system coming into the valley friday night from the west but should be cleared up by saturday night with a strong chance of cheers and jeers to be swept up and taken north west looking to try and make it rain on loredo by sunday” hahaha

So I wanted to start off by apologizing to my readers for my spelling, and grammar! hahah and also for the week it took me to blog. As I said I’m new at this type of jazz, so I’m still learning! but also this week i caught a bit of the flu coming home from Odessa so that took a lot of life out of me mid week. So not only did we take one off the chin that night but i took two right off the button by catching the flu on the way home… hahaha feeling better now though so no worries if you see me, you don’t have to run to the nearest hand sanitizer to disinfect.

But yesterdays game against corpus was a good one! felt good in a lot of ways!!!!! I think every year when you start with a new team its always important to get a win early to make your team identity and get that confidence. Our first two games caused a little stumble, but a little stumble in a long season is just that….pretty darn little !! but i thought our team really battled hard on Saturday. Yea we weren’t perfect but I thought we worked harder, and that is the identity we plan on having! and our fans were great!!! we had a nice loud building to come home to and get the train back on track! So that my little worker bee’s that is the honey to the hive!!! But being this blog is a little short and sweet, i will hit you all with a nice one mid week here to get you all over the hump!! till than, “keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars”!!!

“if it aint rough it aint right”

I hope all who are going to read this blog will first off realize that although i did go to college, I was not a literature major. haha so please just keep that in mind when it comes to my writing, because, “as my mom would say i write like I speak!” but anyways, i’m really excited to be able to bring people a little behind the scenes and show them the fun we have together off the ice!

As i sit here a little nervous because, flat out i’m just not good at writing!!! but i like to think i could talk to anyone, even probably get the beefeaters (the royal british guards that never move or talk) to chat a bit with me!! hahaha but we are now starting to wind down with training camp. this is always a good feeling, not that ya don’t like to work hard….but just nice to get to have some fun with the new guys, and get to know them and call them by nicknames like sleezy( aaron lee), and sweazey (matt sweazey) and baumer (stacey bauman) and beaut (topher scott) not bash there heads in while battling in the corners against them.

Its good to be back though… gilly still has his vicious flip with the puck, one that keeps everyone alert… even the zamboni guys, cause you just never know where he might put the puck when he’s passing or dumping them in the zones for drills!! haha and coach brooks wheeling around out there, actually better than what i feel like i probably look like to people, kinda a kick in the pants actually hahah but i think if i got him in a corner…. i’d be able to get out with the puck. One rapp on the “no shin pad shins” and i’m dancing out of the corner! hahaha but it is really good to have that aspect of training camp back in our lives for a nice long while.

Our team though for all the fans is looking good!! i think we have alot of great people back from last year! after being in a sport for pretty much my whole life, you realize that the core of a team is by far the most important part and i think we have a great group of core leaders back. The new additions to the team have a lot of skill and speed as well!!! Last year we had good team speed and i think this year we’re even faster!! should be fun to have a fast paced game for you all to watch and listen to as rich will try to spit the names out like a rapper would were moving so fast!! hahaha good luck big guy!! hahah

I’d like to also tell everyone that in this blog i’d like to post some picture to keep it exciting and something for people to look forward too! so send me any pictures you have from games or appearences the bee’s do, and i will pick some to put on the website ZAKM@KILLERBEEHOCKEY.COM! also i’m a fan of fun clips and pics, so i just may put one on each blog whether it deals with hockey or not! haha maybe something we all laugh at in the locker room or just maybe me and wylie do in our apt! so be ready!!!!

So in closing my first blog of my life… still cracks me up that i get to do this haha i’ excited to say that i think this year will be a fun year to be in the hive enjoying the BUZZ! don’t mind the PUN!!! hahaha but get excited for saturday and get your tickets and play ted nugent fred bear the rest of the week cause come saturday we get to, “get that buck!” hahaha cheesy eh!
