WICHITA, Kan.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were eliminated from post-season play on Saturday night falling to the Wichita Thunder 6-2 and falling in the best-of-seven series 4-1. The Bees scored twice as Aaron Lee and Dan Gendur hit the twine.

BOX SCORE

The Killer Bees scored the first goal of the game as they have in every game this series as Aaron Lee scored his third of the post-season after picking up a Jason Dixon rebound. The goal came on a 4-on-4.

Wichita tied the game at one at 12:24 with a power-play goal from Daniel Tetrault. Tetrault launched a shot from the point that pin-balled it’s way to John Murray and through five-hole.

The Killer Bees took their second lead of the game at 1:09 of the second period as Cody Carlson fed Dan Gendur who was wide open and buried the puck to the back of the net. Carson finished the post-season with three points, Gendur finished with five.

Wichita came storming back scoring the next three goals of the second period starting with RG Flath at 3:43 of the second. That goal was followed by Daniel Tetrault’s second from the point at 7:29 and a giveaway allowed Alex Bourret to feed RG Falth for a third strike at 11:41 of the second.

Wichita added a pair of third period strikes to cement the victory.

The Bees finished the season with a 32-27-7 regular season record and won their first playoff game since 2009. Many records were set during the season as Aaron Lee became the Bees all-time games played leader and now holds the single season goals record and career goals record. Dan Gendur also had a record setting season become the Bees single season points leader.

The Bees fourth place finish was the highest since 2008-09.

HIDALGO, Texas- Despite playing shorthanded the entire game the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees turned in a valiant effort that fell just short as the Wichita Thunder took a 4-2 victory Thursday night at the State Farm Arena to take a 3-1 series lead in the first round of the CHL playoffs.

BOX SCORE

Goaltender John Murray made 38 saves on 41 shots keeping the Bees in the game for most of the night but Thunder forward Alex Bourret’s hat trick sealed the win for Wichita.

The Bees struck first at 9:40 in the first period while on the power play when Brady Leavold received a pass on the right side and wristed it past Thunder goalie Adam Russo. The goal was the fourth straight opening mark in the series.

Bourett evened the score in the closing seconds of the first when he scored on a shorthanded rush; he would score again to open the second period when a shot that trickled through Murray deflected in off a skate. RG Flath would add another shorthanded tally for his fourth goal of the series.

Dan Gendur would cut the deficit to one with 10:53 left in the second when he took advantage of a Wichita turnover that left him alone in the slot where he fired one past Russo the keep the Bees alive.

But Bourret would later score into the empty net with seconds left in the third period to complete the hat trick and the win for the Thunder.

The series will now shift back to Wichita on Saturday with the Thunder holding a 3-1 lead. Puck drop will be at 7:05, you can catch the game on CHL TV or 956sports.com.

WICHITA, Kan.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees now trail the Wichita Thunder 2-0 in their best-of-seven series after falling 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Wichita. Tomas Klempa was the lone Bees goal scorer and John Murray played well making 41 saves on 43 shots.

BOX SCORE

Much like the first game of the series the Bees would score the first goal of the game while on the power-play and take lead into the locker room. Tomas Klempa took a loose puck in the crease and slid it to the back of the net.

The Bees were outshot 14-6 in the first, but lead 1-0.

Wichita would start the second period with 3:54 of 5-on-3 power-play time but the Bees would kill off all the Thunder chances.

The Thunder thought they had tied the game at the 13:20 mark of the second when referee Boone Bruggman pointed to the Killer Bees net signaling goal. However after a conference with the linesmen Bruggman waived off the goal as it had only hit the crossbar.

Wichita would finally tie the game at the 16:06 mark of the second as Dutin Donaghy took an off-angle shot that deflected off Murray to the back of the net.

The Bees had a chance to take a 2-1 with 3:20 left in the second as Brady Leavold was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway. Leavold looked to have Russo beat but the shot just rose over the top of the net.

The teams were tied at one heading to the locker room despite the Bees being outshot 34-12 after two periods.

The Thunder would strike early in the third period as Chris Greene put in a rebound at the 3:11 mark giving Wichita a 2-1 lead.
