LEVY NAMED NO. 5 MOST POPULAR BEE

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley today announced that goaltender Jeff Levy has been selected as the No. 5 most popular franchise player of all time as chosen by online fan voting at www.killerbeehockey.com.

Levy will be among those invited back to the Dodge Arena on January 5, 2008, for “Five at the Hive Night.” The Killer Bees will honor the fans’ top 5 favorite players that night in a pre-game ceremony, among other events planned for the evening.

Jeff Levy (2003-05) – The games-played leader among Killer Bees goaltenders, Levy appeared in 93 regular season contests and holds the all time wins record with 43.

His five-game winning streak (2/8/04-2/21/04) stood until last season when Jeremy Symington won six in a row. He holds the franchise record for shutouts (6) and the single season record for lowest goals against (2.21).

On May 12, 2003, Levy became the first player ever signed by the Bees. “It is an honor to be a part of this inaugural franchise and I am certainly honored to be the organization’s first signee,” Levy said at the time. “I am as excited in coming to Rio Grande Valley as the people here are about having hockey step into their community.”

Catching up with Jeff Levy:

What do you do now?
I sell equipment to fire departments in Albuquerque.

Do you go see the New Mexico Scorpions play?
Occasionally I go to the games.

Ever get on the ice?
My son Hank is five and plays mite hockey. I try to get out there and coach as much as I can. I‘m friends with Ray Edwards, the former coach for the Scorpions, and I helped out with the goalies a little at the start of the year. But I really didn’t have the time to do much with it.

What was life like for you as a Killer Bee?
It was terrific. The fans were great. It was like playing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals every night at home; that’s how loud I remember the fans being. Every single game was a big deal and meant something to the fans.
