MAXWELL NAMED NO. 4 MOST POPULAR BEE

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees today announced that Dennis Maxwell has been selected as the No. 4 most popular franchise player of all time as chosen by online fan voting at www.killerbeehockey.com.

Maxwell joined the Bees prior to the 2006-07 season and is entering his 14th professional campaign. Maxwell will take part in “Five at the Hive Night” on January 5, 2008 at the Dodge Arena. The Killer Bees will honor the fans’ top 5 favorite players that night in a pre-game ceremony, among other events planned for the evening.

Dennis Maxwell (2006-?) – The only current Bee selected to the top 5 list, Maxwell joined the team last season after making stops in a number of leagues and cities throughout his decade-plus career. He quickly won fans over with his friendly demeanor off the ice and pugilistic skills on the ice. His 59 points (21-38-59) marked the second-highest offensive output of his pro career and his best offensive season since 2000-01. His 38 assists were a career high. He was a key member of the power play unit last season and posted 25 of his points on the man-advantage.

Catching Up with Dennis Maxwell

One full season as a Bee and you’re in the Top 5! Not bad!

I’m glad my wife voted for me a couple hundred times, that’s how I snuck in. I’m kind of shocked to be honest. I’m honored to be chosen by the fans. Hopefully I can keep up the good work.

Speaking of your wife, how are she and your newborn?

Eliza and my wife are doing well. We’re just settling in. So far so good. This where we found out the good news and now we’re back to share the good news.

What do you like most about playing here?

From the time I got here people made me feel welcome. It’s a laid back atmosphere in the Valley. People have really welcomed us with open arms. Anything they can do for you, they don’t hesitate. It’s very nice.

How excited are you for the season to be getting underway?

Extremely excited. I think with the core guys that are coming back and the new guys coming in, I think we’ll have a better team this year and hopefully we can do some damage. Last year Paul came in and half the team wasn’t his recruits. This year it’s his and Sean’s team. I’m honored to play for those guys. They now how I feel about playing here and I’m happy to back.
